QEMS Inc. is a cutting-edge technology company specializing in providing contract electronics manufacturing services to a wide range of customers having product offerings in many different industries and market segments. With a focus on innovation and sustainability, QEMS offers a range of advanced services and applications designed to address the complex manufacturing requirements of electronic assemblies for any industry.
Their expertise encompasses precision component placement, circuit encapsulation, test system development, and complete product manufacturing in preparing electronic assemblies to withstand harsh and unforgiving environmental conditions.
QEMS, based in Rock Hill, South Carolina, encountered substantial environmental challenges on their production floor. The facility's original design catered to a previous manufacturing operation characterized by significantly higher energy consumption. Consequently, the environmental equipment exceeded their operational requirements.
QEMS experienced several additional difficulties, which included:
Phuong Nguyen, CEO, shared: “Our power bill was very high six months after moving into this building, and we weren’t even running our production lines yet. We didn’t know what to do and our provider at the time was not advising us what to do.”
To address the challenges QEMS faced, Dynamiq implemented a comprehensive solution that aimed to enhance energy efficiency, reduce water usage, and improve the overall manufacturing process.
The following steps were taken:
Additionally, advanced fault detection and diagnostics (FDD) were installed on the building automation system to shift QEMS from reactive to predictive maintenance. This approach reduces downtime and costs while extending existing equipment life.
Duke Energy’s Smart $aver® Business Program is an energy efficiency program offered by Duke Energy to its commercial and industrial customers. The program is designed to help businesses reduce their energy consumption and lower their electricity bills by providing incentives and rebates for implementing energy-efficient technologies and practices.
After the implementation of the project, QEMS experienced 43% reduction in energy costs across their entire facility, over 500,000 kilowatts, equating to approximately $85,000 in savings.
Additional benefits included:
QEMS has experienced the benefits of lower maintenance costs due to the reliable equipment and building analytics/FDD installed during the project. The efficiency tracking, energy usage monitoring, and custom control sequency has provided QEMS with a comprehensive understanding of the facility’s impact on the business. According to Phuong, “Total efficiency is up and consumption is down, even with the addition of an entirely new production line.”
“We wanted a long-term partner to help us improve and hit our goals. Now, our efficiency has been up and our consumption is down.”
-Phuong, CEO
“We now feel like we have the opportunity to set realistic energy savings goals and actually meet them.”
